04.04.25 The 3 Little Pigs

04.04.25

This week our ‘Super Six’ story was ‘Wake-Up Time on Bumble Farm’ which is a TWINKL original story. Lazy Rooster is sleeping late. Without his cock-a-doodle-doo, Farmer Faye is still in bed and the animals on Bumble Farm are causing chaos!

Our ‘Drawing Club’ focus was the traditional tale of ‘The 3 Little Pigs’. The 3 Little Pigs each build a house from different materials; straw, sticks and bricks. The Big Bad Wolf blows down 2 of the weaker houses but the pigs manage to escape from him in the strong brick house and trap him when he climbs down the chimney into a pot of boiling water.

This week our rainbow challenges have been:

Maths – taking away number sentences using a 10s frame and counters

Fine motor – can you make the pigs house using different shapes

Literacy – character speech bubbles

Funky fingers – dress the different pigs in an outfit (cut and stick)

Creative –make a representation of each of the 3 different pigs houses using different resources

Phonics – write a list of the different resources the pigs need for building their houses

ICT – find the missing letter to complete the word (Balloon Phonics)

In maths this week Reception have been looking at doubling numbers using different resources to find the total. We have used the different numicon shapes and dominos to support our learning.  In Ten Town this week we have been investigating the number 17 and doing a mixture of addition and subtraction calculations.

Nursery have been recapping capacity, mass and length this week and investigating these areas using various objects and resources from within the classroom.

During our nursery rhyme time this week we have been recapping the different songs from this term. All the links for these songs are on the weekly blogs which are still on the class page of the website if you would like to revisit them.

In phonics this week Reception have continued to work in their groups recapping Set 2 sounds with Mrs Whaley and Mrs Parker when reading and writing different words. The children in Mrs Whaley’s group have learnt the 1st 6 sounds from Set 3 which are ea oi o-e i-e a-e u-e. We will be recapping these next week before Miss Sheridan does her assessments during the last few days of the half term ready for new groupings after Easter.

On Thursday morning we went outside and retold the story of The 3 Little Pigs. Everyone had a turn at taking on the role of either the pigs or the wolf joining in with the key repeated phrases “little pig little pig let me come in” and “not by the hair on my chinny chin chin”. We talked about features of a traditional tale and that they often start with ‘once upon a time’ and finish with ‘the end’.

We have continued to make the most out of the brighter and warmer weather this week and have enjoyed spending time in the EYFS garden and using the climbing equipment on the wood chips. We have really enjoyed using the new play equipment and playing with the older children creating new games together.

Next week our ‘Super Six’ book is ‘The Scarecrow’s Wedding’ by Julia Donaldson and our animation for our Drawing Club focus is the original Pink Panther cartoon.
